Introduction

Located within the City Island complex in Zagreb, the project is set in a strongly defined industrial environment characterized by metal, glass, steel, and concrete, softened by integrated greenery. Predominantly composed of office spaces and positioned near the airport, the complex naturally integrates a hotel program—introducing Pullman as a complementary hospitality function within a business-oriented urban context.

Concept

The interior design of Pullman’s public spaces reinterprets the industrial architectural framework by introducing softness, atmosphere, and spatial fluidity. Designed by Pulsar Arhitektura, the concept transforms the traditional hotel lobby into a multifunctional “living room” where reception, bar, lounge, and restaurant seamlessly merge into one adaptable environment.

Purpose

The project aims to create a shared space for both hotel guests and the wider City Island community. It supports a variety of uses—from daily work and informal meetings to events and social gatherings—expanding the hotel’s role beyond hospitality into a social hub.

Interior Strategy

The layout is based on openness and flexibility, allowing spaces to shift between different uses throughout the day. The integration of interior and terrace areas enhances spatial continuity, while the fluid organization supports both individual and collective experiences.

Arhitecture and Materials

Within the industrial shell, the design introduces a softer, Mediterranean-inspired atmosphere. Terrazzo flooring evokes a pebbled coastline, while beige carpet “islands,” olive trees, and natural textures create a calming environment. Olive-toned surfaces, terracotta accents, and soft lighting further enhance the connection to landscape and climate, while refined materials and subtle gold details reflect Pullman’s premium identity.

Experience

The space is designed as a calming refuge from work environments, offering flexibility, comfort, and a balanced sensory experience. It supports multiple modes of use—work, relaxation, and social interaction—within a cohesive spatial identity.

Vision

The project establishes a new type of hybrid hospitality space—integrating hotel functions with everyday urban life. By combining industrial architecture with soft, locally inspired elements and artistic contributions by Damir Sobota, it creates a contemporary, context-driven environment that redefines the role of the hotel within the City Island complex.
